The original White Hot putter put golf-ball material into the clubface. Introduced in February 2000, its white insert used material developed for the cover of Callaway’s new golf ball. An insert is a separate piece set into the face where the putter meets the ball.1
Callaway’s launch announcement describes five models with the insert pressed into a stainless steel head and machined flat. Because the insert was lighter than steel, the design allowed more weight around the head’s perimeter. The material, its location and the surrounding metal were all parts of the same design.1
The 2-Ball model placed two ball-sized alignment marks behind the face, giving the golfer a visible line of three balls when addressing a putt. Callaway announced it alongside a White Hot Rossie on November 15, 2001, with both scheduled to reach golf shops in January 2002.2
