Bettinardi
A Bettinardi putter begins with a machining question: how much of the head can be cut from one solid piece of metal? Robert Bettinardi brought computer-controlled milling to his putter work in the early 1990s, shaping heads from solid stock rather than joining separate pieces.1

Bettinardi formed his own golf company in 1998 after making putters for other manufacturers. The company’s chronology records six introductory models in 1999, including the BB1. That distinction separates the beginning of his putter-making work from the launch of the named brand.12
The Honeycomb face pattern also dates to 1998 in the company’s history. It came from a specialized cutter used to machine the striking surface. The pattern is a manufacturing detail as well as an identifying feature: it records how the surface was finished.1
