Louisville Golf

A Louisville Golf wood begins as a block of persimmon. Its hickory shafts begin as square lengths of timber. The company’s workshop account follows those materials through selection and shaping, making visible the work behind a wooden club.1

Established in 1974, Louisville Golf grew from work begun in a garage. Longtime employee Nancy Silk recalled founder Elmore Just setting up in his father’s garage after a year at Hillerich & Bradsby. Her account places the company’s beginnings in the hands of a clubmaker and his family.2

Jeremy Wright and his wife Yin-Yin bought the business in January 2017 and retained its staff. The company also makes reproductions of historical clubs, following details such as head shape, the length of the neck that receives the shaft, and patterns of dots or lines on the face. A newly made reproduction carries an older design into use again.12
