Myopia Hunt Club

Herbert C. Leeds joined Myopia in 1896 and developed the Long Nine, replacing rudimentary golf with a more deliberate use of the natural ground. His design placed particular emphasis on green locations and undulating putting surfaces.¹

Herbert Leeds and the Long Nine

Leeds converted stone walls into grassed mounds, creating the features known as Myopia’s chocolate drops. Bunkers supplied difficulty where the terrain needed more help. His revised course hosted the 1898 U.S. Open, won by Fred Herd with 328 for seventy-two holes.¹
