East

Winged Foot’s East Course is part of A.W. Tillinghast’s original two-course commission, opened in 1923. Its championship record includes the 1957 and 1972 U.S. Women’s Opens and the first U.S. Senior Open in 1980.²

The East has its own story

The East’s first six holes follow lower ground. The seventh climbs toward the terrain shared with the West.¹

At the first green, a ridge runs back to front; another crosses the rear. The elevated thirteenth is framed by bunkers, with short shots falling back downhill.¹

The third green’s false front was restored in 2013, shrinking the landing area and returning short shots down the slope.¹
