Columbia Country Club

Columbia’s foundation attributes the course principally to Walter Travis while acknowledging Herbert Barker and founding member Walter Harban in its design history. Travis returned to make changes in 1915 and helped prepare the course for the 1921 U.S. Open.¹

Travis’s influence on the greens

The foundation locates his lasting influence in the approaches to undulating, compartmentalized greens. Although the property expanded and its hazards and practice facilities changed, the course retained its original routing, giving the later work a continuing structural foundation.¹
