Garden City Golf Club

Devereux Emmet designed the original Garden City course. The history published by St. George’s, another of his clubs, connects the commission to the Garden City Company, where he served as a director and vice president.¹

The nine-hole hotel course preceded the championship venue. The hotel dates its opening to 1897, while St. George’s dates the original Garden City Golf Club design to 1899; these accounts describe different stages of the property’s development.²¹
