At San Francisco Golf Club, Bruce Baker befriended future USGA presidents Sandy Tatum and Grant Spaeth. During a round in 1993, Spaeth encouraged him to attend Rules school, beginning Baker’s long career in tournament service.1

Baker later helped develop the idea behind Youth on Course: making golf available to children for five dollars. His friendships at the Club were an early link in a wider commitment to regional golf.1
