East Lake Golf Club

Jones attended the July 4, 1908 opening with his father and grew up beside the course. He later served as Club president in 1946-47, giving his association an institutional role.²

At the 1963 Ryder Cup, Arnold Palmer combined playing and captaincy duties while the United States defeated Great Britain 23-9. International team competition had arrived at a Club already identified with a great individual amateur.²

A charitable foundation purchased East Lake in 1993, linking its renewal to neighborhood programs. The TOUR Championship first arrived in 1998 and became a permanent fixture in 2005. Championship hosting and the Club’s community purpose developed together within this renewed institutional model.¹²

The Club describes that purpose through partnerships with the East Lake Foundation, Drew Charter School, Charlie Yates Golf Course and other local organizations. Education, housing access and economic mobility form the stated aims, extending the institution’s work beyond maintaining a course and staging a tournament.¹
