Whistling Straits
Demand for golf from guests at the restored American Club helped bring Herbert Kohler and Pete Dye together. After Blackwolf Run opened in 1988, Kohler pursued another course along Lake Michigan.1

A lakeshore site found after Blackwolf Run
The eventual property had served as an Army training airfield and later a landfill. Kohler completed its purchase from Wisconsin Electric Power Company in May 1995, after lengthy negotiations, beginning the transformation into Whistling Straits.1
