Shoreacres
Shoreacres incorporated in November 1916 with Stanley Field as its first president. Initially called Lakewoods, it adopted Shoreacres after discovering a similarly named club. World War I delayed construction; the postwar recession then reduced the original clubhouse and aquatic-sports ambitions.1

A Club reshaped by two wars
The Club officially opened in 1923. In 1943 it lent its clubhouse and course to the nearby naval base, offering free use to naval-hospital patients. Onwentsia accommodated Shoreacres members while their own facilities served the war effort.1
