Sea Island Golf Club
Howard Coffin acquired Retreat Plantation in 1926. Golf followed in 1928 with the first nine holes of Plantation, then Seaside in 1929, establishing the resort’s earliest golfing ground on St. Simons Island.1

Golf beside an older plantation landscape
An 1825 corn barn became the golf clubhouse in 1929. Its later uses, alongside the development of the Lodge, preserve a link between the property’s agricultural buildings and its twentieth-century life as a golfing resort.1
