Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course
During World War II, the Army leased Torrey Pines Mesa for Camp Callan, an anti-aircraft training center. The camp operated from January 1941 to November 1945; its dismantled buildings later supplied lumber for veterans’ housing.1

From Army training ground to municipal golf
A 1956 city election set aside part of the former military land for public golf. The North and South courses followed, transforming the mesa from wartime training ground into a municipal recreational landscape.1
