At the 1920 U.S. Open, Inverness welcomed competitors into its clubhouse. Its history describes this as a break with the exclusion of tournament professionals from private clubhouses.1

A clock for an open clubhouse
The players pooled money to give the members a cathedral clock in gratitude. Still displayed in the clubhouse lobby, the clock turns a change in hospitality into a physical object that the Club can point to more than a century later.1
