At Friar’s Head, Coore and Crenshaw’s course crosses former farmland and tall dunes beside Long Island Sound. That landscape has also become a setting for Metropolitan amateur championship golf.2

Friar’s Head hosted the Metropolitan Amateur in 2008 and the Ike stroke-play championship in 2015.1
The regional championship connection continued with the 2021 MGA Mid-Amateur, won by Chris DeJohn. When the MGA selected Friar’s Head for the Met Amateur’s return in 2023, a record 847 players entered qualifying for the 75-player field.2
