Mike Keiser’s travels through the old golfing landscapes of Britain helped form an ambition to make distinguished golf available beyond private membership. At Bandon he hired Howard McKee to develop the land plan and secure approvals, KemperSports to manage construction and operations, and David McLay Kidd to design the first course.1

A public destination on the dunes
The resort opened in 1999, then grew with Tom Doak’s Pacific Dunes in 2001. McKee’s Pub commemorates a participant in that work, rather than an imported Scottish inn: McKee helped locate the coastal property, guide its permitting and coordinate the relationship between golf, buildings and landscape.1
