National Golf Links of America was founded in 1908 under Charles B. Macdonald’s leadership. His ambition grew from studying courses in Scotland and England: he wanted to bring their strongest golfing qualities into a first-class American course.1

An American course shaped by British golf
The Club occupies a 253-acre property beside Peconic Bay in Southampton. Its eighteen-hole course was constructed with the assistance of local engineer Seth Raynor, tying the National’s beginning to the partnership that helped spread these architectural ideas.1
