Minneapolis Golf Club hosted the U.S. Amateur in 1950 and the PGA Championship in 1959. The latter carried an additional local distinction: the Club identifies it as Minnesota’s first nationally televised golf tournament, broadcast by CBS.1

Championship golf and a charitable stage
From 1996 through 2003, the Dayton’s Challenge brought exhibition golf to the Club in support of the Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Tom and Jim Lehman helped organize an event whose 1998 field included Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player.1
