Midlothian Country Club
Chicago businessmen founded Midlothian in 1898 on 208 acres southwest of the city. The property combined low, bowl-like ground with a brook, giving the new institution both a landscape and a transportation problem.1

A country club with its own railway
A horse-drawn coach initially carried visitors from the station. The Club then built a three-mile railway, using a small locomotive and two coaches to connect members with their country retreat.1
