Old Town Club
Charlie and Mary Reynolds Babcock set out in 1938 to establish a golf club beside Reynolda, their Winston-Salem home. Clifford Roberts, familiar with Perry Maxwell’s work at Augusta National, recommended Maxwell for the project.1

Golf on the Reynolds estate
Construction began on December 6, 1938. Offered a choice across the estate’s 1,003 acres, Maxwell selected a 165-acre horse farm for the course.1
The resulting 1939 layout later became an important reference for Bill Coore. Coore and Ben Crenshaw restored its bunkering in 2013, renewing the connection between Maxwell’s original work and a later generation of architects.2
