Cherry Hills was founded in 1922 by members of Denver Country Club who wanted an institution devoted to golf. Its initial name, The Cherry Hills Club, recalled an orchard on the property.1

A golf-first beginning in Cherry Hills
The U.S. Open arrived in 1938. Defending champion Ralph Guldahl won by six strokes, giving Cherry Hills its first national championship and beginning a long association with major competition.1
