Glen View Club
Northwestern professor William Caldwell proposed a country retreat to a group of businessmen in February 1897. Glen View Golf & Polo Club incorporated the following month. Its property came from the Dewes family, who had settled the land earlier in the nineteenth century.1

A retreat shaped by Chicago designers
Daniel Burnham served on the site-selection committee and brought landscape architect O. C. Simonds into the project. Member William Holabird designed the first clubhouse, later lost to fire in 1921. The grounds and buildings therefore drew on Chicago’s architectural community as well as its golfers.1
