Seminole Golf Club

The property comprised 140 acres formerly owned by Harry Seymour Kelsey. Donald Ross’s course and Marion Sims Wyeth’s clubhouse were built in 1929. Together they established the physical home of an institution whose later building additions would enlarge the original clubhouse footprint.³

Ben Hogan first came for the 1937 Seminole Amateur-Professional and returned for the event in 1940. His friendships with members and professionals, including Claude Harmon and Henry Picard, became part of a long association with the Club. The gathering continued through 1961 and was revived in 2004.⁴

A different audience encountered Seminole on May 17, 2020. The televised TaylorMade Driving Relief match paired Rory McIlroy with Dustin Johnson against Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff. Its four-ball skins format supported pandemic relief, bringing the course onto television for the first time.²⁵

The Walker Cup followed on May 8-9, 2021. This brought international amateur team competition to the same course that had drawn prominent professionals for decades, adding a distinct chapter to Seminole’s history of gathering players across the boundaries of the professional and amateur games.¹
