The Los Angeles Country Club
The Los Angeles Country Club began in 1897 as the Los Angeles Golf Club, a voluntary association promoting a comparatively new local sport. Before settling beside Beverly Hills, its members repeatedly moved in search of enough room for a growing club and its golf.3

From borrowed ground to Beverly Hills
The first nine holes occupied a leased sixteen-acre lot at Pico and Alvarado Streets. An abandoned windmill supplied a makeshift clubhouse and the name Windmill Links. The members soon moved to the Convent Links, then to a site at Pico and Western where they laid out eighteen holes.1
The present Club opened on May 30, 1911. Its clubhouse, tennis courts and golf grounds established a permanent home after those early relocations. Later generations renewed both courses, including the North restoration unveiled in 2010 and the South rebuilding completed in 2016.3
National amateur championships brought visitors long before the U.S. Open. In 1930, Glenna Collett Vare won her fifth U.S. Women’s Amateur title on the North Course. Foster Bradley won the 1954 U.S. Junior Amateur, and the United States defeated Great Britain and Ireland in the 2017 Walker Cup.2
The North hosted the Club’s first U.S. Open in June 2023. Wyndham Clark won with rounds of 64, 67, 69 and 70, claiming his first major championship. The event returned the U.S. Open to Los Angeles for the first time since 1948.1
