Chambers Bay opened in 2007 on a former sand and gravel mine beside Puget Sound. Its development formed part of an environmental reclamation project that converted industrial ground into a public golf destination.1

The course hosted the 2015 U.S. Open only eight years after opening. That championship brought the reclaimed Washington property onto a national stage while it continued to operate as a public course.1
