Portland Golf Club
Nine Portland businessmen founded the Club in 1914, purchasing land southwest of the city. The first clubhouse stood beside the sixth green; after it burned, its replacement at the present clubhouse site also succumbed to fire.1

The main structure completed in 1928 became the continuing heart of the property. In 1947, the Club hosted the first Ryder Cup after World War II, linking its local institutional history to the return of international team golf.1
