Royal Lytham’s first Open in 1926 produced Bobby Jones’s first victory in the championship. The Club recalls that Jones forgot his competitor’s ticket before the final round and paid for spectator admission to regain entry.¹

An Open venue with memorable arrivals

In 1952, eventual winner Bobby Locke faced another unexpected obstacle: his clubs were locked inside a garage with his car. The Club’s history credits a passing milkman with helping him obtain the key in time to reach the first tee.¹
