Spyglass Hill opened in 1966 with the Northern California Golf Association involved in its development. Its name came from Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.1

Bob Hanna, the association’s first executive director, extended the literary connection by naming most holes for the novel’s characters and places. The course became a regular venue for association competition as well as professional golf.1
